PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

Primary Responsibilities:  The candidate will have a proven record of designing and developing face-to-face as well as Web-based educational products and materials from needs analysis and development of instructional objectives to designing instruction to the final evaluation of courseware. The candidate will work in an integrated team environment with other instructional designers, graphic designers and programmers to develop effective course content and learning activities and conduct quality reviews on products. The candidate must show a strong history of working with university faculty to enhance both face to face instruction and distributed learning. Excellent organizational, planning, writing and communications skills are essential. The successful candidate must have experience:

  • Supporting and collaborating with university faculty or educators to enhance their instruction.
  • Designing and implementing diverse high-impact strategies for integrating technology into educational programs, universities, and classrooms.
  • Organizing instructional content for both face to face instruction and distributed learning.
  • Designing and implementing innovative projects (e.g., interactive media) that leverage the power of the Internet and other instructional technologies effectively to improve teaching and learning, based on best practices in the field.
  • Working with a development team to ensure the instruction is developed according to the approved design.
  • Completing evaluation and assessment on courseware and other educational products. -Measuring the impact of innovative projects in education and development.
  • Developing and leading face-to-face training/professional development sessions.
  • Leading teams and working productively in teams consisting of people with different technical and cultural backgrounds.
  • Giving and receiving constructive criticism.
  • Writing a variety of business and academic documents including project descriptions, case studies, project reports, journal articles, conference papers, etc., and writing concisely, quickly and compellingly.
  • Thinking conceptually, strategically and critically in order to contribute to growth and research.
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules and timelines using MS Project.
  • Concurrently working on multiple projects with different timelines.

 Basic Qualifications:

  • The qualified candidate must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design or related field. The candidate must have at least 8 years of direct experience.
  • Must be able to pass a National Agency Check. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Ability to conduct research and summarize research findings is a plus.
  • Familiarity with at least one learning management system (preferably both as a student and as a course creator) is a plus.
  • Experience working in a military environment strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Instructional Design
  • Experience as a faculty member in a higher education setting
  • Experience with the Sakai LMS

Clearance:  U.S. citizenship required.
