The Information System Security Specialist is responsible for supporting all aspects of Program Information Assurance (IA) processes tailored to include minimum qualification standards, fundamental awareness and familiarity to demonstrated competency with specific experience in Cyber Security, Engineering, Test & Evaluation, (T&E) and/or Security Control Assessor (SCA) under a Certification & Accreditation (C&A) and/or Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process.

The specialist is expected to evaluate security solutions to ensure they meet security requirements for processing up to classified information, and supervise and/or maintain the operational security posture for an information system or program. More senior specialists may assist or develop system security policy and ensure compliance of change management and configuration control processes. Plan and coordinate the IT security program and policies supporting the command leadership mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and security software to ensure their confidentiality, integrity and availability. 
  • Implement Department of Defense information assurance compliance and security changes in both physical and virtualized environments as required. 
  • Interact with network and systems administration teams to identify and remediate system vulnerabilities and may travel to customer sites to support system deliveries schedule.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 4-6 years of related experience or a Master of Science degree with 2-4 years of experience or a PhD with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process and/or include prior experience with the Defense Information Assurance & Certification Accreditation Process (DIACAP).
  • Familiarity with security policies & guidance documents to assist with the preparation and maintenance of process artifacts and traceability documents purposed for compliance with Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Information Assurance tools such as DISA Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)
  • Knowledge of network security concepts including vulnerability management, scanning, compliance status, and performing mitigation actions, a strong understanding of security principles and methods, such as firewalls, DMZ, and encryption and knowledge of systems administration concepts such as:
  • Windows 7 or later/Server 2008 R2 or later OS hardening
  • Implementing STIG checklists on Windows servers and workstations
  • Performing vulnerability scans using Tenable Nessus or similar products
  • Group policy configuration and implementation
  • Application hardening
  • Virtualization using VMWare technologies
  • Performing updates and security patches remotely on systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft server diagnostic tools and fault identification.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g. Security+)
  • Experience with Information Assurance tools such as DISA Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) and may be required to hold a Full Security Control Assessor qualification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain directory services, monitor and optimize server performance and recover failed physical and/or virtual servers.
  • SharePoint Administration skills
  • Extensive experience developing or reviewing RMF and DIACAP packages.
  • HBSS
  • ACAS
