Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, analysis, modeling, assembly, and validation of mechanical systems and subsystems
  • Creating of concept and detailed solid models and assemblies as well as prototype and production release technical drawings and data packages
  • Proper use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) on part and assembly drawings
  • Hand calculations and computer FEA, to support product development and detailed design
  • Manufacturing process simulation and cost modeling
  • Test and evaluation of products and systems for analytical model validation and/or qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering with a minimum of 0-2 years of experience.
  • Very experienced in analysis of complex systems using finite element analysis (FEA) packages (Ansys/Abaqus preferred) including: 
    • Highly nonlinear analysis with plasticity and contact
    • Application of shock, blast, and vibration loading
    • Experience with low and high cycle fatigue
    • Heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and numerical simulation of them including: 
    • Open and closed die metal forming, extruding, and bending
    • Welding, distortion, shrinkage, and heat treatment
    • Simulation based design of tooling, dies, and manufacturing processes
    • Coupled physics including structural/thermal and fluid/structural
  • Ability to develop, document and communicate requirements, simulation plans, results, and recommendations 
    • Trade studies, system optimization and weight reduction analyses
    • Design of Experiments (DOE), data reduction and data analysis
    • Analysis documentation for product qualification, structural integrity, and aerospace flight clearance
    • Manufacturing systems development and cost modeling
  • Experience with analytical model validation, material characterization, and product qualification testing
  • CAD proficiency with complex parts and assemblies (PTC Creo preferred)
  • Hands on mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with prototyping, metal working, manufacturing, and/or production systems preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience creating internal and external briefs, presentations, cost benefit analyses, and technical engineering documentation to support product and manufacturing system designs
